I’ve got a planning job! So that’s the end of this application blog! Well the end for an application blog but the starting point as a blog. I will close De but en Blanc and carry on with Organic Frog!
Asi said a lot about the Junior planner odyssey, well he said almost everything you have to know to start working as a planner…so I will just give you some thoughts about my own experience.
I will start with my story in the world of advertising… In the French education you have to do a lot of internships, and as every college has nearly the same dates for internships, you have to learn to be creative if you want to work for your favorite agencies! Whereas most of my college fellow were sending classics CVs and cover letters, I came up with the application below (I played american football in France!!), sent it to 5 agencies, had 4 interviews and 2 internships offers. Not too bad isn’t it?
Young graduate, I went to London to fight the French inferiority complex for the English advertising! However my English was far from perfect (and I still have to improve it!) I was looking for an new internship.
I liked my American football application who gave me 3 internships opportunities but being in the digital world at AKQA was the starting point of a reflection: how to have a more engaging application? It’s not just about telling a story it’s also about engaging the audience.
So I came up with this all organic frog idea(Start from below), and made a viral about it; sending 1 email and updating the blog during 5 days. I sent it to various agencies in London, mainly digital and it worked! I had several interviews and a job offer from agency.com as a Junior planner!
I will now try to do a case study of my Organic Frog application and try to give some advices to people who want to work as a Junior Planner
- Try to have a key idea (here the Organic Frog) and build your analogy with the job from there.
- Try to find an angle and to be positioning as a brand: here Organic and subversive.
- Use the best of the web 2.0 to show that you are interesting in the future of advertising (blog, flikr, del.icio.us…)
- Find a planning mentor who will advice you during the experience (Thank you Saher)
- Ask feed back from people, the negative one are always the more important! (Thanks Russell for telling me “to be honest I find it slightly intriguing, but mostly annoying” Thanks to this I wrote the 5th post and started to have more interviews!)
And finally I would like to thanks all the people who helped me, introduced me to Head of Planning: John, Eleanor, Saher…
And most than everyone else Clemence, my girlfriend, she gave me cracking advices and did the brilliant graphic design, THANKS A LOT.

best of luck!
Asi.
Félicitations!!
bonne chance
