The more you communicate the fewer friends you have!

Article from De But en Blanc

This is paradoxical but a study from the American Sociological Review (2004) arrives to this conclusion! The study shows that in twenty years, the number of Americans without any friends has been multiplied by 2.

An American had on average 3 friends in 1985 and now he has just 2 friends. Even worst 25% haven’t got any friend!

According to the study, the reasons are people working late at work and the raise of the Internet! The more friends you have online the fewer you have in the real life…

This study isn’t a surprise, this is the old debate: is technology evil? Do we loose our sociability with the Internet, video games…? Do we communicate more thanks to the internet?

We have to observe that since the raise of sites like My Space, some teenagers spend more time online than in real life… The whole society is favouring people to be in total communication: mobile, chat, forum, blog… Before the social difference was the accession of technology now this difference could be the good use of technology…

So Russell initiative is a good medicine to spend time networking and meeting people in the real life!
