Green planning

I went to see John Grant’s lecture on Green marketing/planning yesterday.

It was a pretty informative conference. I liked the grid he used in the second part of the presentation because It made me re-think the role of marketing in the context of green issues. It made me realize environmental concerns are more of a cultural/social problem as opposed to a passing trend.

He used the dot com bubble as an analogy to analyze commercial behaviour, which was a really clever way to understand how people see environmental issues. In the 1990’s, people wanted websites without knowing what to do with them. Now people are implementing CSR in the same way… John Grant called this shift ‘e’commerce to ‘g’commerce. I can’t wait to see the first Green planners appearing!

Remember ‘it’s not about making normal stuff look green, it’s about making green stuff look normal.’ John Grant
